How to Register a Death

Together with the appropriate authority and Doctor we will help and advise you as best we can so that you can register the death. Normally this is done in the district in which the death occurred and has to be registered by a close relative of the deceased, executor or other suitable informant.

Following the issue of the Doctors Death Certificate you can then make an appointment with Leeds Register Office on 0113 2224408 to go and register the death at an office suitable to you.
You will need the Doctors Certificate with you and details such as full name of deceased (maiden name if applicable), date and place of birth, occupation, home address and if married full name and occupation of spouse.
The Registrar will go through the registration with you and register the death and they will then issue all necessary certificates.

The Coroner

In cases when the death is reported to the Coroner the procedure is different.
The Coroner will tell you what will happen as to death certificates etc but we together with the Coroner will work to make sure the minimum possible delay is met and guide you as best we can.
